I have recently had a breakthrough by leaning into resistance of planning and promoting my consulting and coaching business.
For over 23 years I have been in the software engineering arena, with over 13 years specifically utilizing Microsoft SQL Server. Database engineering, administration, and programming has been my day job, my money maker, and I’m good at it.
For over 30 years I have essentially dabbled with various types of self-improvement, over the last few years I have gotten more intentional about it. Leaning into why I would get so frustrated with policies, workflows, priorities and such. With a little more effort you can produce something extraordinary rather than simply getting a minimal viable solution released.
If the solution creates a maintenance/helpdesk headache; why not spend a little more time and design a solution that allows issues to be resolved at the lowest levels? Streamline the process that allows your team to spend more time focusing on the most important goals and projects.
My breakthrough, my miracle, my realization has been the frustration stems from the fact that I simply wasn’t listening. I heard every conversation and discussion through a filter, a lens, a specific viewpoint. Probably more often than not, I was not willing to allow myself to be influenced when I could get my way or at least have compelling evidence and logic behind the chosen direction. Which is a bit ironic with 20 years of military experience under my belt.
Or is it? Perhaps the real issue is not communicating effectively that I want to step into a leadership position. It appears to be much easier to sit back and place all of the responsibility and blame on others when something does work rather than taking ownership and stepping up and being the solution.
That is what I am stepping into. Being the solution.
I don’t need to know the specific details of every problem, er, opportunity to know that I can provide the path to resolving the concern. The vast majority of the time solutions are found simply in collaborating and communicating effectively with each other. That is where I am putting my consulting practice. Assisting teams collaborate and communicate more effectively to streamline the processes and workflows. Identifying and resolving the bottlenecks causing the constraints that are blocking contributors from reaching their maximum potential.
With that, I have redesigned my website and making a commitment to regularly add additional content and clarity on the services that I bring to the table.
